AI literacy in the classroom: UNESCO's framework in practical language
Fifteen competencies across five dimensions and three progression levels, translated into questions a school can use.
AI literacy for teachers is not a list of products. UNESCO's framework combines a human-centred mindset, ethics, technical foundations, pedagogy, and professional development. Each develops through Acquire, Deepen, and Create levels, producing a 15-cell map.

The five dimensions
A human-centred mindset asks whether AI supports human agency and learning goals. Ethics covers responsibility, fairness, privacy, and appropriate use. AI foundations and applications gives teachers enough technical understanding to question outputs and limits. AI pedagogy connects tools to teaching design. AI for professional development treats the teacher's own practice as an area for continued inquiry.
The dimensions are meant to work together. A teacher who can operate a tool but cannot examine its evidence or classroom effect is not yet fully AI literate under this model.

Acquire, Deepen, Create
Acquire means gaining essential awareness, concepts, and safe introductory practice. Deepen means applying knowledge critically in real teaching situations, comparing approaches, and adapting them to learners. Create means shaping new practices, contributing knowledge, and helping others build responsible uses.
These are developmental levels, not job titles or a race. A teacher may be at different levels in different dimensions. A school should support movement through practice and reflection rather than assign a single permanent label.

Turn the map into school questions
For each planned use, ask what learning objective the tool supports, what data enters it, what a student must still do independently, how an output will be checked, and how learners without equal device or language access will participate. Then decide what evidence would show that the activity improved learning.
Schools also need a clear process for mistakes. Students should know when AI assistance is permitted, how to disclose it, how to challenge an incorrect output, and how work will be assessed. Teachers need time to compare examples and revise practice.

A first-term sequence for an Armenian school
Begin with one low-consequence activity in which teachers compare an AI answer with a trusted source and record errors. Next, redesign an existing lesson so the tool supports a defined thinking task rather than replacing it. Finally, hold a short review of student experience, access, language quality, and learning evidence before expanding use.
Localization remains necessary. Armenian examples, terminology, school resources, age groups, and assessment expectations must be developed locally. UNESCO's framework supplies a structure, not a finished Armenian curriculum.

- Weeks 4 to 8: one bounded lesson experiment.
- Weeks 9 to 12: collect evidence, discuss failures, and revise.
- End of term: decide whether to stop, repeat, or expand.

Limits of this edition
The UNESCO framework is a global reference, not a ready Armenian curriculum or certification.
The practical sequence is Imananq's adaptation and has not been validated as a national program.
Local age, language, access, and assessment requirements need separate design.
